Angels All Around Us

I would like to share an experience with you. This is not the only spiritual event that has happened to me, but for some reason, I am feeling compelled to share this one. My faith does not require any litmus test or miracles to prove God’s existence. I have complete faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I also believe that God’s angels are all around us, continuously doing the will of God. Sometimes, I believe, we catch a glimpse of the angelic world. This is one of those glimpses.

When I was about 25 years old, I would drive across town to Mass early on Sunday mornings. My husband would stay with our son, who was about two years old, and very “active”.  Actually, our priest called him a “live wire”. Needless to say, I looked forward to my time alone with God.

It was a quiet morning, around 8am, and there was no traffic at all. The roads were empty. I was getting nearer to the Church and saw that the light was green up ahead. It did not just turn, it was clearly green. As I was getting closer to the light, a male voice said very sternly, STOP NOW. I didn’t even think about it. I obeyed and slammed my foot on the brake, and stopped right before the green light. A car flew through the red light. I am sure I would have been killed if I hadn’t stopped.

I have always known it was my guardian angel that protected me that morning. Really, what other explanation could there be? I have no doubt that heaven, hell, angels, and demons exist. There would be other spiritual events in my life that intensified my faith.

So, my question to you is, have you ever had an experience that cannot be explained in worldly terms? I believe that angels are all around us, and are working in perfect harmony with God. Sometimes, for a reason unknown to us, we are given the privilege of experiencing the spiritual realm. For me, the experiences confirm and strengthen my faith. I think sometimes people are afraid to share their experiences with anyone…maybe they just try to ignore what they know happened…because they cannot explain it.

Your experiences, together with your faith, can be a blessing that allows you to touch a heart in need. Whether or not angels are involved…

Psalm 91:11-12 “For He will give His angels charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

Matthew 18:10 “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in Heaven.”

Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them”

Evangelizing With Our Daily Life

My husband and I have been blessed to commute together each morning to our respective jobs.  We have formed a daily ritual of stopping at McDonald’s for our morning coffee, and we see many of the same people every day having breakfast.  It’s kind of developing into a “community” of sorts, and each day brings a new surprise.

First, let me tell you, it’s a weird thing…I am usually the only female customer during those breakfast hours.  I’m really not sure of the reason for this lack of females, but I’m leaning toward the “guys” taking a stand to consume lots of bacon, sausage and cheese without anyone looking over their shoulders.  That’s just my assessment!

Anyway, this morning we walked in as usual, and the happy McDonald’s team members already had our medium coffee, medium decaf, and two creamers sitting on the counter before we even ordered.  And as usual, they started our day with the blessings of smiles and joy.

We made our way over to our usual, kind of secluded, spot.  As we passed two guys that we have been saying hello to for a few weeks, we smiled and greeted them.  As we sat down, my husband started talking with them.  We all proceeded to talk about our jobs, and the state of our country and the world in general.

Out of the blue, one of the men (Tony) started telling us about how he and his family are Christians, and how they read the Bible.  He was sharing about how crazy things are getting and that you have to arm yourself with the Spirit of God within you.  He then shared with us that his two children had an experience (at different times) of seeing an angelic presence which filled them with peace.  He said that they described everything about the apparitions in detail, and he wrote everything down, including a drawn picture of what they had seen.

When Tony was sharing his faith and his children’s experiences, my husband and I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.  He went on to share that he and his wife at first questioned if the apparitions were from God, however, as they realized the peace that came over their little ones due to the experiences, they felt more at peace themselves.

I shared my experiences of the times my guardian angel spoke to me in times of danger, and also the flash of light that surrounded both my husband and me at different times.  I also shared with him that when I spoke with my priest about those experiences, he said that if the event brings peace to the spirit and draws the person closer to Jesus, it is God sent.  Tony affirmed that he felt the same way…that the family is at peace and drawing closer to The Lord.

As my husband and I were standing up, getting ready to leave, Tony looked at us and said the following.  His words still warm my heart when I think of them, and once again reminds me how we are all being watched.

We are evangelizing with our daily lives without even saying a word, without even realizing it.

What he said was this:  “We watch you two together every day and see how much you love each other.  What you have is special and more couples need to have what you have.  There are so many couples giving up too soon, and too many people who are struggling with their marriage.”

We let him know that we went through many struggles, however, only through God was it possible for us to develop the loving relationship that we now have.

Marriage is a blessing…and so are the new friends God placed in our lives this morning.

Thank you Lord, for once again placing such beautiful people in our life.  Help us to always see through your eyes, hear through your ears, feel through your heart, and allow us to work and show love through your guidance.

Present Moment

Yesterday I was blessed to spend some time with a close friend, and her two daughters. We took her five year old and ten month old to an indoor playground. Being that my sons are now adults, and I don’t have grandchildren yet, I had never seen a place quite  like this.

It was wonderful watching the children play, and interacting with them. This child’s wonderland was filled with children having loads of fun and most of their parents enjoying their time together. All in all, it was a joy filled time!

There was one little scene between a young father and daughter that saddened me. I am sharing it because in this day and age we are all that father at one time or another. We all miss important, everyday moments.

The little girl was about three years old. She was so cute, dressed in her little sundress, and her brown hair was a little tousled from playing. She was rocking on a little toy horse, and her face was glowing. Her father was standing directly in front of her, and she was beaming at him. Her smile was pure and contagious, and she did not take her eyes off of her daddy the whole time she was rocking. She wanted to share her joy with him.

He never saw her…he was engrossed in his cell phone and never looked up at her. My heart broke in that little minute.

How many minutes, how many opportunities to love and grow in our relationships do we miss each day because we are not living in the moment? How long will we allow ourselves to be lured away from real life by our electronics or entertainment?

This encounter yesterday reminded me of something that happened many years ago between my father and me.

I was probably around seven or eight years old I think. My father was reading his newspaper, and I was lying on my stomach on the living room floor, reading the Sunday comics. My father meant the world to me, and I was chatting happily with him. When I was speaking, I looked up at him while he was answering, “uh huh”…I realized that his attention was on the newspaper and he was just saying “uh huh” every now and then even though he really didn’t know what I was saying. With my young mind I comprehended what was happening, and felt embarrassed and sad.

Funny, how I still remember that.

So, let’s focus on each moment and the precious people that the Lord places in our lives. There are hearts and minds in need of the love, acceptance, and affirmation that only we can give them.

And when we truly learn to live as blessings in the present moment, loving the Lord and his children, we will also be blessed abundantly in our own hearts and spirits.

Flash of Light

This is a different kind of post today.  I am looking to you for your interpretation or ideas regarding an unexplainable event that my family experienced.  For some reason, it has been on my mind lately.

About 17 or so years ago, my husband and I were at a place in life that was full and extremely busy.  We were living in Burke, Virginia while raising our teenaged sons, working fulltime jobs, and also investing many hours a week building a business.  Many times after work, we would check in with the boys, and then head back out for meetings.  These meetings would last late into the night.

On one particular night, right after returning from one of those meetings, it was very late and very dark outside.  I was in the front yard, on the driveway, walking our dog.   I was never afraid being outside at night with Taylor (our dog) because he was a good guard dog, and I knew if someone was around he would bark and warn me.

This night would be a little different.

While I was moving toward the grassy area, suddenly I felt an extreme evil presence.  I can’t really explain that feeling, except to say that all at once I felt a dark, heavy presence around me, the hairs on my neck and arms stood straight up on my body, and I just kind of froze on the spot.

I had never before felt oppressive fear like that until that very moment.

At the same time I was thinking, “the dog’s not barking it must be ok.”  As soon as these feelings and thoughts manifested within me, out of the blue,  I was surrounded by a bright flash of blue and white light.  The kind of light that comes from a sparkler.  It was like a flash of light that kind of just whooshed and engulfed me in the middle of it.  In a second it was over…I just stood there in shock for a moment, and then just walked into the house.  I don’t remember telling my husband, and I know I did not tell my sons.

I am not sure of what it was, but I do have my thoughts about the experience.

But it gets weirder.

A day or so after that experience, I was backing out of the driveway.  My youngest son was in the backseat.  I was turned around, checking to make sure all was clear behind me as I backed out.  All at once, that same flash surrounded us.  I was a little in shock that it happened again.  Slowly, I turned back around, not saying anything to my son.

He then said, “mom, what was that?”  Ok, I wasn’t crazy – he saw it, too!

That brings me to a few nights ago, when my hubby and I were out for dinner and a drink.  He shared with me that when we lived in Burke, he saw that same flash TWICE.  At the time, he had no clue what it was, so he told himself it must be heat lightning.

One thing I can tell you…it was not heat lightning.  And even if it was, what would be the odds of heat lightning occurring in the same place on four separate occasions?

So, there you have it.  One of the many “paranormal” or just plain unexplainable events of my life.

Any thoughts?
