Evangelizing With Our Daily Life

My husband and I have been blessed to commute together each morning to our respective jobs.  We have formed a daily ritual of stopping at McDonald’s for our morning coffee, and we see many of the same people every day having breakfast.  It’s kind of developing into a “community” of sorts, and each day brings a new surprise.

First, let me tell you, it’s a weird thing…I am usually the only female customer during those breakfast hours.  I’m really not sure of the reason for this lack of females, but I’m leaning toward the “guys” taking a stand to consume lots of bacon, sausage and cheese without anyone looking over their shoulders.  That’s just my assessment!

Anyway, this morning we walked in as usual, and the happy McDonald’s team members already had our medium coffee, medium decaf, and two creamers sitting on the counter before we even ordered.  And as usual, they started our day with the blessings of smiles and joy.

We made our way over to our usual, kind of secluded, spot.  As we passed two guys that we have been saying hello to for a few weeks, we smiled and greeted them.  As we sat down, my husband started talking with them.  We all proceeded to talk about our jobs, and the state of our country and the world in general.

Out of the blue, one of the men (Tony) started telling us about how he and his family are Christians, and how they read the Bible.  He was sharing about how crazy things are getting and that you have to arm yourself with the Spirit of God within you.  He then shared with us that his two children had an experience (at different times) of seeing an angelic presence which filled them with peace.  He said that they described everything about the apparitions in detail, and he wrote everything down, including a drawn picture of what they had seen.

When Tony was sharing his faith and his children’s experiences, my husband and I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.  He went on to share that he and his wife at first questioned if the apparitions were from God, however, as they realized the peace that came over their little ones due to the experiences, they felt more at peace themselves.

I shared my experiences of the times my guardian angel spoke to me in times of danger, and also the flash of light that surrounded both my husband and me at different times.  I also shared with him that when I spoke with my priest about those experiences, he said that if the event brings peace to the spirit and draws the person closer to Jesus, it is God sent.  Tony affirmed that he felt the same way…that the family is at peace and drawing closer to The Lord.

As my husband and I were standing up, getting ready to leave, Tony looked at us and said the following.  His words still warm my heart when I think of them, and once again reminds me how we are all being watched.

We are evangelizing with our daily lives without even saying a word, without even realizing it.

What he said was this:  “We watch you two together every day and see how much you love each other.  What you have is special and more couples need to have what you have.  There are so many couples giving up too soon, and too many people who are struggling with their marriage.”

We let him know that we went through many struggles, however, only through God was it possible for us to develop the loving relationship that we now have.

Marriage is a blessing…and so are the new friends God placed in our lives this morning.

Thank you Lord, for once again placing such beautiful people in our life.  Help us to always see through your eyes, hear through your ears, feel through your heart, and allow us to work and show love through your guidance.

Always Know I am With You

This morning, I was alone.  My husband left early to work at a Georgetown market (we have a graphic tee business), and my mother was still fast asleep.

The thought went through my head to go back to sleep, being it was a Saturday and 7am, but I realized this was my chance to have some stillness and quiet time with God.   And…I LOVE mornings.  I grabbed my eggs, toasted english muffin with strawberry jam, and a cup of coffee and set out for the back deck.

I was just sitting there, with my eyes closed, listening to the faintest of breezes, and the beautiful music of the birds in the backyard.  Thankfully, there was a break in the rain spell we have been experiencing, and the humidity level was lower than normal.  Things were good:-)

The temperature was 76 degrees, and the air felt pretty near perfect, and it was overcast.  The sun was behind some thick clouds.

With my eyes still closed, I leaned back in my chair, fully at peace, and asked the Lord to let me know what He wanted for my day…what did He wish for me to know.

As soon as I finished that request/thought, my body was enveloped with unbelievable warmth and light from the sun.  I mean it completely overcame my whole being, and I felt myself basking in God’s love.  He spoke to me.

“Keep me in your thoughts and heart and you will find me all through your day.  Always know that I am with you.”

When I hear the Lord speaking to me, I listen. (or at least try to!!!)  I will keep my eyes, ears, and heart open, today and everyday, to look for Him. I know that He will show up in places that I do not expect.

I am looking forward to being surprised by my Heavenly Father, and looking for the ways He will use me to share His love.

May God bless you with His Holy Spirit, so that your eyes will see Him, your ears will hear Him, and your heart will know Him.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.   John 3:16

I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.   Proverbs 8:17

Biscuits and Wisdom

Yesterday morning, my husband woke me up with a kiss, and a question.  “Would you like to go out for breakfast?”  He knows I always get to moving fast in the morning, when a “breakfast out”  is on the agenda.  I LOVE breakfast, and all the foods associated with it!  And also the laid back cozy feeling we share together, over the meal and coffee.

Unfortunately, I need to watch my fat intake, so I am usually pretty careful about my food choices.  One of the things I stay away from is biscuits.  I know those buttery, flakey, delectable morsels should be off of my food radar.

We split an omelette with spinach, portobello mushrooms, and a little swiss cheese.  I had half a whole grain pancake, and enjoyed everything.  I watched Joe slathering honey on his biscuit, and then eating it, telling me how good it was.  I couldn’t take it anymore…I broke off a tiny piece of the biscuit,  that’s all I was going to have, and topped it with a tiny bit of honey…and as soon as it was in my mouth, it felt like heaven!

So, after I finished the entire biscuit, I sat there feeling very full and very guilty.

Our waitress came over to check on us.  She was a beautiful young girl, (teenager) that had sparkling  brown eyes and a sweet spirit.  When she asked how everything was, I said “a little too good…I just ate a biscuit that I shouldn’t have eaten”.  Without skipping a beat, she offered “When I eat something I shouldn’t, I always tell my boyfriend that it is good for my soul.  My soul will live forever, and my body will live just a short time.”  She gave us a warm, genuine smile and left.

Such simple words of wisdom she graced us with.

On the way home, Joe commented how amazing it is when someone says just what you need to hear at the time you need to hear it.  Graces and miracles happen every day…and sometimes are easy to miss.

How often do we spend all our energy and time on things of the body- temporal things?  We tend to rationalize, citing all the reasons for not taking the time to become more intimate with Jesus, not taking the time for thanksgiving, worship and repentance.    We tell ourselves that family, education, jobs, vacations, sports, housework, entertainment, volunteering take up all our time.  God understands, right???

God loves us no matter what.  He loves us unconditionally…that is a given.  What is NOT a given, is a two way loving relationship with him.

I believe our relationships on this earth are meant to teach us and prepare us for our eternal relationship with God.  What relationship can flourish if we never spend special, quality time together?  In a loving relationship, don’t we look for ways to bring happiness to each other?  Would we want to offend and dishonor our beloved friends, family members or spouses by living our lives selfishly always looking away from them instead of keeping our eyes, hearts and fidelity fixed on them?

Thank you Lord for touching  us through that sweet waitress. “My soul will live forever, and my body will live just a short time.”

Thank you for reminding me to keep my focus on you, and on heavenly things.  When I honor you, and open my heart to you, you fill me with unbelievable love and peace.  Only then am I able to accomplish the work and share the love that you entrust to me alone.
